INTERIOR INSPIRATION

Alex’s suggestions fell right in line with Sophia’s dream for this space: “The rug does such a beautiful thing of reflecting all the light that bounces off the walls and ceiling. The coffee table feels of the moment yet ’60s,” she enthuses. “Suddenly this whole space got so much more usable. My friends and I love piling onto those vintage kilim pillows to watch TV.”

It might seem counterintuitive, but darkening the cottage’s beams highlighted the lightness of the redone space.
The house is on the tiny side—the front door opens right up into this main room. A rough-hewn wood bench gives it a bit of bohemian Bolinas spirit to set the tone.

A vintage Bertoia chair—designed in 1952—nails the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic. What’s more, its open black frame allows the long room to flow from living to dining space without visual interruption or bulkiness.

The gray sofa’s chenille fabric underscores the cozy feeling here. “It’s the most comfortable, soft, snuggly fabric, like lying on a blanket,” Sophia says. “It’s really heavenly.”
“When I look at photographs of photographs, I’m never really sure if it’s right. Or I can look at the measurements of something, but really seeing how those pieces fill a space is wonderful for me. Opening up all of this art was so much fun,” Sophia says.

Sophia couldn’t have been more thrilled with the final look. “There were things we hadn’t picked out or even talked about, where Alex just surprised me. He brought in all this dishware and these beautiful place mats, which he said felt reminiscent of the textiles in my house. It was such a gesture.”

First of all I want to apologise for being mia for the last 2 weeks. Can’t believe I’ve already failed at one of my new years resolutions. Shit! See what I’m referring to here. I’ve just been so busy at work, plus we went on a trip two weeks ago and on top of that we decided it would be a good idea to move at the end of March. So its safe to say that I’ve got my plate spilling over at this time in my life and as a result I find it hard to squeeze in blogging. But I’m back at it, so first things first…

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

….. better late than never….

My partner and I have been together for 14 Valentines days and we’re still not married. Lol! Why not you ask? Beats me. No man, I’m just kidding. It’s because we both haven't felt completely ready to take that step yet. We wanted to get all our ducks in a row before we settle down. It does not mean that we’re any less committed to one another, we’re already like an old married couple if you ask me. We’ll get married when it feels right for both of us. #nopressure

Since we’re in the month of looooove, I thought I’d share one of the things I've recently fell in love with. Sophia Bush’s LA Cottage is absolutely perfect! And even though I’ve only seen the living area, I can just imagine what the rest of the cottage looks like. It’s the perfect mix of modern and bohemian. I could seriously move in tomorrow. Absolute great inspiration for our new home we’re moving to. It also has exposed beams in the living room. Now I can’t wait to move!

Shoes! If you’re reading this blog post I can say without a doubt that you are probably just as obsessed with shoes as I am.

I’m a sucker for a statement shoe, so much so that I will buy a pair of statement shoes and just put them in my closet for display. It sounds ridiculous, I know, why would someone buy a pair of shoes and never wear them?

I blame the little voice in my head that only comes out when I’m in a shoe department. He reminds me that this is the must have shoe of the season and I have to have it. To this day I still can’t get rid of the little fucker! He starts putting ideas in my head – “You can wear them when you and your partner go out for dinner” – we never go out for dinner. “You can wear them to the movies” – we always watch Netflix. “You can wear them to the club” – I’m too old for that shit. “You can wear it to a black tie event” – the only black tie event I’ve ever been too was a office party. “You can wear it to work” – well now, that sounds more realistic. Finally I bite the bullet, buy them, take them home and select a day to wear them to work with an outfit and everything. When the day comes, I choke, grab my black loafers instead and I end up never wearing my statement shoes at all.

So this post is not just to help my fellow fashionistas who get stuck and need some styling inspo once in a while, it is for me as well. I want to get out of my comfort zone and start wearing my fucking shoes! I love these looks above for work. If it is a more conservative environment, wear a plain suit with white heels instead of black. If your in a more business-casual environment you can go wild with all the colours of the rainbow and all the bells & whistles. Just remember that if you select a statement shoe it should tie in with your outfit, texture or colour wise. Also, don’t go too bold with your outfit, you want the shoe to do all the talking. Here’s to hope that my sea of shoes will finally see the light of day in 2018.

How do you style your statement shoes? Let me know in the comments, I need all the help I can get!
